Spoiler Alert, an online platform that encourages businesses to donate their surplus food and organic waste, recently highlighted Daily Table’s successful donation on their User Spotlight Series.

Daily Table, a not for profit grocery store located in Dorchester, MA, uses Spoiler Alert to attain donations and special buying opportunities. Daily Table creates healthy prepared meals and groceries with the surplus product from local farms, supermarkets, and food manufacturers. With Spoiler Alert’s online platform, Food for Free was able to recover several thousand pounds of strawberries and supply them to Daily Table for their strawberry banana smoothies. Saving these strawberries is an example of the top two tiers of EPA’s Food Recovery Hierarchy. These tiers focus on reducing wasted food and recovering edible food for people.

Spoiler Alert, Daily Table, Food Donation Connection, and Food For Free, are participating in RecyclingWorks’ workshop, Getting Started with Food Donation, on June 28 in Cambridge. This workshop, which is part of Harvard Food Law and Policy Clinic’s  Reduce and Recover: Save Food for People conference will help connect food service businesses start food donation programs.

Spoiler Alert is also an endorser of the EPA’s Food Recovery Challenge and WasteWise programs.

The Natural Resource Defense Council and the Ad Council released, “The Extraordinary Life and Times of Strawberry,” video as part of the “Save the Food” Campaign, to encourage consumers to reduce food waste.

RecyclingWorks in Massachusetts recently posted guidelines to help food service businesses safely donate to food rescue organizations.
