The combination of contamination in recycling streams and present market conditions has disrupted recycling infrastructure in Massachusetts. MassDEP will be leading a Statewide Recycling Education Initiative to improve recycling habits by raising public awareness about what materials can be put in curbside recycling. Reduced contamination will improve the quality of recycled materials while also reducing processing costs.
