The US EPA recently announced 2016 Food Recovery Challenge Award Winners in New England. Organizations that participate in the Food Recovery Challenge pledge to improve their sustainable food management practices and report their results. In 2015, 54 New England participants diverted over 52,000 tons of food to donation and/or composting.
The EPA is presenting a ‘Regional Food Recovery Achievement Certificate’ to 26 New England organizations, recognizing their food waste reduction efforts. Awardees in Massachusetts include:

- Boston Medical Center
- BJs Wholesale Club
- Framingham State University
- Gillette Stadium
- Lesley University
- Massachusetts Institute of Technology
- Massachusetts Maritime Academy
- Northeastern University
- Salem State University
- Saunders Hotel Group: The Lenox and Comfort Inn & Suites
- University of Massachusetts Lowell and Amherst
- Wellesley College
- Whole Foods Market
The EPA will present Food Recovery Challenge Awards to Massachusetts recipients at the WasteWise 2016 Fall Forum on December 1st.
