UMass Lowell celebrated the start of the Massachusetts Commercial Organics Waste Ban with state officials including DEP Commissioner David Cash, who led by example, taking an active role in the day’s kitchen scrap collection. UMass Lowell made an early commitment to food waste diversion, and began composting a year ago at the behest of a student environmental advocacy group.
