The webinar will feature the project team that initiated the collection infrastructure to bring commercial hauling of source separated organics to a composting facility in the Worcester, Massachusetts area.Ā Ā The city has a population of 181,045 and is home to 10 colleges and universities and a major medical center and teaching hospital.Ā Ā We will hear from the project team that was chaired by the Center for EcoTechnology(CET), a non-profit environmental organization providing environmental education and technical assistance to businesses; Big Y Supermarket, a 60 store Supermarket Chain; and EL Harvey Inc., a full service waste hauling, transfer, and scrap recycling operation.Ā Ā The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection have been partnering to promote food waste diversion to compostingĀ Ā along withĀ Ā CET who has been assisting Big Y with their recycling and composting programs inĀ Ā Massachusetts and Connecticut since the mid-1990ās.Ā Ā The team worked together to address the needĀ Ā for source separated organics hauling and E.L Harvey now provides that service toĀ Ā Big Yās Worcester area stores as well as other local businesses and institutions. |
