The webinar will feature the project team that initiated the collection infrastructure to bring commercial hauling of source separated organics to a composting facility in the Worcester, Massachusetts area.  The city has a population of 181,045 and is home to 10 colleges and universities and a major medical center and teaching hospital.  We will hear from the project team that was chaired by the Center for EcoTechnology(CET), a non-profit environmental organization providing environmental education and technical assistance to businesses; Big Y Supermarket, a 60 store Supermarket Chain; and EL Harvey Inc., a full service waste hauling, transfer, and scrap recycling operation.  The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection have been partnering to promote food waste diversion to composting  along with  CET who has been assisting Big Y with their recycling and composting programs in  Massachusetts and Connecticut since the mid-1990’s.  The team worked together to address the need  for source separated organics hauling and E.L Harvey now provides that service to  Big Y’s Worcester area stores as well as other local businesses and institutions.
