Syneron Candela is a global leader in developing and marketing esthetic medical products, such as devices for hair removal, wrinkle treatment, and skin rejuvenation. Syneron Candela is headquartered in Wayland, MA and services more than 100 countries worldwide.

Syneron’s Wayland facility signed an Administrative Consent Order with a Penalty (ACOP) with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection in August 2018 for the disposal of cardboard and metal, both of which are waste ban materials.

RecyclingWorks staff connected with Syneron’s Facilities Specialist and learned that the company had already taken action by ordering a designated metal dumpster through their hauler, Wellesley Trucking, but the company also wanted to do more to improve their recycling program.

Syneron employees had been using a 20-yard open top dumpster for periodic department cleanouts. Staff were disposing of mixed materials such as cardboard, metal, furniture, appliances, and electronics into this dumpster. RecyclingWorks staff recommended reaching out to Wellesley Trucking to discuss options for recycling the materials observed in the open top dumpster. Wellesley Trucking suggested having a follow up meeting with their partner, Asset Closeout Sales, to discuss options for material diversion.

Asset Closeout Sales recycles and manages assets including computers, industrial machinery, laboratory equipment, medical equipment, and more. The company was able to take Syneron’s open top dumpster and sort out a half ton of mixed materials for recycling. Asset Closeout Sales also serviced and recycled material from the metal dumpster, which contained old cosmetic laser units, diverting more than 5 tons of metal and electronics from landfill. Syneron Candela, Wellesley Trucking, and Asset Closeout Sales will continue collaborating to foster environmental stewardship and ensure waste ban compliance.
