The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection’s Recycling Business Development Grant (RBDG) program is currently accepting applications for its 2017 cycle. The program, now in its second year, aims to assist recycling processors and manufacturers in creating sustainable markets for difficult-to-process materials, and to add value to municipal and business recycling efforts.

For this round of funding, MassDEP will consider projects dealing with the following eligible materials:

  • container glass
  • contamination in single-stream recycling
  • contaminated food materials
  • construction and demolition wood
  • post-consumer bulky rigid plastics

Grant awards range from $50,000 to $400,000, and the application deadline is June 30, 2017 at 5:00 PM.

The application, along with detailed requirements, can be found on the MassDEP page:  http://www.mass.gov/eea/agencies/massdep/recycle/grants/rbdg.html

In 2016, a total of ten Massachusetts businesses received RBDG grants for a variety of purposes, such as processing glass, plastic, and mattresses and recovering packaged food material.
