This year’s America Recycles Day, two Massachusetts colleges were honored by the EPA for their efforts to reduce food waste on campus. UMass Amherst and Clark University were part of only nine national winners of the EPA’s Food Recovery Challenge in 2013.
Through such solutions as student-run composting programs and the use of anaerobic digesters, students in Massachusetts are finding new ways to reduce the environmental impact of their campuses. RecyclingWorks is proud to have provided assistance to Clark University as they developed their diversion program. This press release from the EPA describes the innovative food waste reduction efforts implemented by students at each college.
