The City of Boston recently started a 9-month process to develop a Zero Waste plan for the City. The plan will include short and long term recommendations on policies, programs, and facilities needed to reduce, reuse, and recycle more materials from residents, businesses, and City government. The City has convened a Zero Waste Advisory Committee, with Residential and Institutional/Commercial/Industrial Subcommittees, which will work with consultants to develop recommendations for the mayor. The City has set up a webpage that will include updated information on the process and recommendations as they develop.
The first meeting of the Advisory Committee and Subcommittees will be on February 12 from 9-11:30am at Boston City Hall. Those interested in attending, or learning more should contact Amy Perlmutter (amy@aperlmutter.com) with the subject “Boston Zero Waste” in the subject line.
The consultant team is led by Perlmutter Associates in Cambridge and also includes the Center for EcoTechnology (CET) in Northampton, and Gary Liss and Ruth Abbe of Zero Waste Associates in California.
